If it helps, we see you and the work you're doing. On the other hand, the nature of the internet is that it doesn't fully satisfy our desire for deep connection - so don't be too surprised if Substack, for all its strengths, still gives you that feeling of being disconnected or lonely or unseen or not good enough. It's a feature, not a bug, of internet spaces.
I don't think you were the only one spiraling this week. Feeling isolated on Substack is an all too familiar occurrence. If it means anything, I think you're doing great.
Thank you Thaddeus, it is an honor to be here and among dope writers 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Loved the intro bit as I am for sure a pant[h](s)er. Love the metaphor of map making and plotting entry points into the story, really dope. I feel like I’ve been trying to learn from Ploters and need to learn from Panters first before I can benefit from Plotting as a tool. When o try the whole plotting thing I feel like I get analysis paralysis in trying to follow the iKea manual of assembling a story and its world lol if you have any post or resources to help a fellow pantser, I am all ears 🙏🏽
"As a discovery writer, I'll take note of something I've written, recognizing it as foreshadowing, and wondering what exactly it points to."
OMG — I do this! I never really gave it much thought until you said it. I take turns writing and editing as I go and when I do those first rounds of edits, I find that I wrote subconsciously, but then when I get back to it, I'm basically arguing with a version of myself over why I was drawn to write what I did. Sometimes this leads to me labeling it as filler and other times, I expand on it finding new threads to build a better and more colorful tapestry.
Thank you so much for including my work in this, Thad.
And we’re all very lucky to have you here.
Great summary and THANK YOU for the mention... what a table to be at! better make sure part three is a belter...
Always a treat and an honor to be mentioned by you.

So unfortunately true
This post is class. I’m curious, will Deeper Stories be published as serial here on Substack or as a physical book?
Apologies if you’ve mentioned that in another post. I’m interested either way. Especially that chapter on sentence length.
Deeper Stories is my rewrite of my essays (mostly) on prose techniques. Most of them are free here https://literarysalon.thaddeusthomas.com/p/prose-style-table-of-contents
Sentence length i believe is this one https://literarysalon.thaddeusthomas.com/p/james-baldwin-and-the-long-sentence
Thank you. Saw James Baldwin in the headline. That’s all I need to see. Reading it now…

I appreciate the mention of my haunted story, Oneiros On Us. Thank you!
You're one of the good ones, TT. As one of those not-seasoned and not-confident writers, I think the community you all are building here is excellent.
